Limited partnerships may be appropriate for some investors but as a general rule they are riskier investments and they are typically illicit meaning that there's not a ready market for them like there are stocks and bonds. So if you're going to buy a limited partnership, you typically need to be ready and willing to hold it and until the conclusion of the partnership which could be many many years down the road.

So it's not generally an appropriate investment for a customer who needs ready access to their funds.
